It’s natural to have attacks of self-doubt. Starting an internet business is a big responsibility and you’re very much on your own (unless being part of sites like this one!). Here are 10 common worries and how to overcome them.
1. Im not smart enough - well actually sometimes you can be too bright to success. Innocence and naivety can actually protect you from fear. It is possible to think to much!
2. Im not pushy enough - do you like doing business with pushy people or do you prefer nice reasonable people? Pushy people are often less successful than you might think.
3. Im not rich enough - one of the best ways to watch your costs is to have no money to waste. Wealthy people can be careless with money.
4. Im not good at maths - relax, spreadsheets and accounting software make the numbers and example easy to work out. Remember that success is as much about instinct as arithmetic.
5. I cant spell - Literacy is great if you want to write books or articles. My own downfall when typing fast, is my spelling leaves a lot to be desired. Use document templates. Get an email or sample email or letter which works, has been checked and copy and paste it as needed.
6. I’ll fail - maybe you will, but maybe tomorrow is the day, when a massive promoter joins you business or you clinch that important promotional tool. You wont make a million if you dont try.
7. Rivals and competition will eat me alive - In fact its usually the opposite. Young, rival, small businesses such as ours can duck and weave beneath all the fists of the money grabbing big hitters. Sure, there is competition here iwith HHnet…but we all have an equal chance, and we are leaders being here now!
8. I’m naturally pessimistic - so you wont make false assumptions and step in to the dark without a torch will you! A glance at the downside puts the upside in perspective - just try to see both sides of things.
9. I dont like taking risks - Theres always a choice and many successful businesses often do take some risks. Make sure they are calculated and that you dont lose everything if it doesnt work out.
10. I know my failings - we all know what we’re good or bad at. We always underestimate the value of our strengths as worrying tends us to think more about what we cant do. No one is perfect and even the most successful recruiters arent! Thats why theres room for all of us together. Focus on what you do well.
Final note…Try to see through marketing hype when assessing a business and avoid jumping from one opportunity to another. We can do this constantly for many years and get nowhere. Pick a business or two, work with it ..stick with it!
